Biography

William Kentridge is a South African artist best known for his prints, drawings, and animated films. He is especially noted for a sequence of hand-drawn animated films he produced during the 1990s, constructed by filming a drawing, making erasures and changes, and filming it again.

Artist Statement

"As of 2025–2026, Irma Stern (1894–1966) is recognized as the highest-valued South African painter, with her works consistently commanding the highest auction prices, often averaging R5 million per painting. His paintings, such as "Children Reading the Koran" (sold for R22.3 million in 2023) and recent portraits selling for over R21 million, set records for South African art."
